Are you waiting to be happy?

Do you think: “if only I had more money,” or “if I could lose weight,” or “had a better job”…, then I would be happy?

Well here’s a secret: You can be happy right now. It’s not always easy, but you can choose to be happy, and in the vast majority of circumstances there’s no one who can stop you except for yourself.

The truth is, happiness doesn’t come from wealth, perfect looks or even a perfect relationship. Happiness comes from within. This is why, if you truly want to be happy, you need to work on yourself, first.

Would you consider yourself a happy person? What’s the secret to being happy?

You can learn how to do it, just as you can learn any other skill.

Those who are happy tend to follow a certain set of habits that create peace in their lives; if you learn to apply these habits in your own life, there’s a good chance you’ll be happy too.

There are numerous traits of happy people that you can learn and use for yourself! Let’s start with one:

Let Go Of Grudges
Forgiving and forgetting is necessary for your own happiness, as holding a grudge means you’re also holding onto resentment, anger, hurt and other negative emotions that are standing in the way of your own happiness.

Letting go of a grudge frees you from negativity and allows more space for positive emotions to fill in.

So here’s your homework for today: Where in your life, and with whom or what, are you currently holding a grudge? Acknowledge that it exists, then take a deep breath and just let go. You have to mentally, emotionally, and even (through your exhalation of breath) physically LET GO of the grudge feeling.

For some of you, this exercise may be just enough to “breathe out” your grudge and release it. For others, you may need to confront what you are holding the grudge about, or who you are holding it against. Take the time to address the issue…don’t just let it fester! Actively pursue some resolution, and then JUST LET IT GO.

Grudges are held by choice. Your choice. So, in essence, YOU are making yourself miserable because you choose to hold on to that grudge.

Are you ready to be happier? Are you ready to smile more? Are you ready to let amazing things into your life? Then start with letting go of the negatives, letting go of the grudges. Free your mind and your heart — just walk away from that emotional baggage.

Let it go. And then let life in. Starting today. Be happy.
